PCS recently completed the demolition of exterior roof-top components at the 43-acre (1.6M SF) Rust Oleum warehouse in Martinsburg, WV. One of the most difficult parts of this project was the removal of the twin 40-foot tall smoke stacks. PCS’s supervisors, Shawn Landi & James Hall, worker with Project Manager, Chris Metzler, to devise a plan to remove the smoke stacks safely and efficient. The first step was to erect the 40-foot scaffold system in house. Shawn and Jame’s crew: Maurice Beasley, Tyler Blazina, Billy Rogowski Jr. and Kristen Nelson got together with our Safety Representative, Josh Spicher, and started to construct the 40-foot system in place. Once the scaffold system was in place and inspected, the crew begin to deconstruct the smoke stacks. 100% fall protection was in place at all times. A pulley system was established to lower waste to the ground for proper disposal. After the smoke stacks were removed, the crew moved to other section of the roof to remove the remaining condensing units, roof vents, exhaust louvers and wood platform.
