The Component Summer 2025

Toby Leach

Vice President, Business Development

By the time this 25th edition of The Component is released, each of our PCS divisions will be moving at perhaps their highest rate of speed, juggling labor, revising schedules, responding to client demands, and navigating through yet another Summer filled with challenging projects. Huge props to Operations and Estimating in our MD, PA & VA offices who continue to work seamlessly together to secure and complete hundreds of projects in a safe, efficient and profitable manner.

Our Project Managers and Supervisors continue to lead their project teams in the field who are, without question, some of the most dedicated and experienced workers in our industry. We are grateful for the hard-working men and women that represent PCS on our job sites each day. Now more than ever we are calling on our site superintendents and supervisors to stress the importance of safety, wearing proper PPE and holding DAILY safety meetings to review the hazards associated with the planned work tasks for that day. Our highest priority is and will always be that all PCS employees make it home safe to their families after each workday.

Rachel Canole & Chris Metzler Bring Their Expertise to Virginia

We’re thrilled to announce that Rachel Canole and Chris Metzler have recently relocated to support our growing Virginia division in Henrico!

Rachel, who just celebrated her 5-year anniversary with PCS, has been an integral part of our team as a Bid Coordinator. Her attention to detail, organization, and dedication have made a huge impact, and we’re excited to see her bring that same energy to the Virginia office.

Chris has been with PCS for an impressive 17 years in our PA division, serving as a Project Manager. With his deep field knowledge and experience managing complex projects, Chris is a natural fit to support the operations team in Virginia.

We couldn’t be more excited to have these two outstanding professionals on the ground, working closely with our already strong crew. Their combined experience and commitment will be key in supporting the continued growth and success of our newest division.

SAFETY FIRST

Construction Safety Week 2025

Once again, this past May, we came together to proudly celebrate Construction Safety Week 2025—a powerful reminder of how important it is to protect ourselves and each other on the job, every single day. The theme this year, “Plan. Own. Commit.”, reminded us that safety starts with a solid plan, taking personal responsibility, and staying committed—day in and day out.

Whether you’re in the field or in the office, safety is something we all share. When we look out for each other, speak up, and stick to the plan, we build a stronger, safer team. But we want to be clear—safety isn’t just something we talk about for one week a year. As a company, we need to keep pushing ourselves to make safety a real, daily priority. That means staying alert, following procedures, and always watching out for one another. We owe it to ourselves, our teams, and our families to take this seriously—
every single day.

Project Spotlight

Cecil County Solid Waste Operations Facility

Selective Demo

Our team recently completed a selective demolition project at the Cecil County Solid Waste Operations Facility in Elkton, MD. Over the course of the job, our crew took down the existing buildings, including their slabs. The area was cleared in about a week. From start to finish, our team kept safety, precision, and efficiency at the forefront, completing the project on schedule and to a high standard. Good job team!

Selective Demolition Sets the Stage for SSA Renovation

Earlier this summer, our team wrapped up a selective demolition project at the Social Security Administration’s Perimeter East Building in Woodlawn, Maryland — part of a larger floor renovation and building-wide upgrades designed to create a brighter, safer, and more functional workspace for the SSA team.

Our work cleared the way for these improvements by removing major building elements, including the complete demolition of a stairwell, windows, masonry walls, partitions, ductwork and piping, and various mechanical and electrical components such as exhaust fans, light fixtures, and plumbing. We also removed flooring, wall heaters, equipment, and, in one of the project’s most demanding tasks, the plaster ceiling.

That two-month overhead removal, led by Supervisor Cristian Perez and his crew, required endurance, precision, and — above all — a strong commitment to safety. Cristian kept operations running smoothly while ensuring safety stayed front and center every step of the way.

This demolition was a critical first step in preparing the space for its transformation. Once complete, the overall project will feature modern, open office space, new stair towers for improved emergency exits, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, a smoke exhaust system for the atrium, and a refreshed cafeteria — all aimed at improving safety, comfort, and long-term system resilience.

A big thank-you to Cristian, the entire crew, and Project Manager Jason Komara for documenting the process. Great job to everyone involved for representing PCS with the professionalism our clients have come to rely on!
